Functional Duties: The City of Deltona's Parks & Recreation Department's mission is to "create community" and enhance the quality of life in Deltona through people, places, programs and partnerships." We desire to optimize the use of our municipal facilities for public purposes, and to increase the opportunities for adult and youth recreational programs in the City. Our department overseas 196 acres which includes 18 developed parks, several facilities and leased school facilities. Our staff are responsible for the coordination of City sponsored athletic leagues, recreation programs, special events, building and ball field maintenance, turf and landscape maintenance, custodial upkeep, and establishing partnerships with over 22 local associations. All lands and improvements thereon dedicated and provided, along with related City services, are for the purpose of advancing these public recreational opportunities. All parks, facilities and recreation programs are utilized in a fiscally responsible manner in order to protect the investment of the City residents and to raise the standard of service in Deltona.MISSION STATEMENT - "We create community and enhance the quality of life in Deltona through people, places, programs, and partnerships."
2007/2008 GOALS & OBJECTIVES:Objective: Construct and effectively manage agreements and contracts. (Youth athletics, school board etc.) Measurement: Reduce the number of breaks in service and improve building and park eye appeal.Objective: Implement Master Plan outcomes. Measurement: Develop 10-15 year Capital Improvement Plan.Objective: Establish a City-wide Volunteer Program. Measurement: Conduct Recognition event/activities.Objective: Develop and implement a program of maintenance for 108,392 sq. ft. building space, 220 acreas of sports turf. Measurement: Quality performance by contractors and employees. Reasonable budget requests.Objective: Improve Department and programming identify. Measurement: Twice annual program brochure distributed.Objective: Establish a City-wide ADA Transition Plan. Measurement: City of Deltona Transition Plan completed and subsequent budget requirements identified.Objective: Continue to identify alternative funding sources and opportunities. Measurement: Increased revenues.Objective: Provide a year-round program of recreational activities involving special events, athletics, sports, community education and culture. Measurement: Engage service providers to initiate recreational opportunities for persons with disabilities.
SCHEDULED PARK PROJECTS 2007/2008Wes Crile Park: Completion of FRDAP grant of $200,000 continues as we are developing a rubberized walking trail, field turf replacement, and a shade structure and shower tower for the Splash Pad. Expceted completion date is 2008.Campbell Park: The renovation of the park includes installation of a boardwalk with fishing pier, gazebo, playground, picnic shelter, tennis court (FRDAP Grant). Expected completion date is 2008.Tom Hoffman Park: (formerly known as Whipple Nature Park). This is a new park development that will feature a nature trail, picnic facilities, butterfly garden, restrooms, playground and parking lot (ECHO Grant). Expected completion date is 2008.Lake Monroe Boat Ramp: Two new floating docks, benches, plant beautification project was completed March 2008. Future plans include addition of pavilions.
